Getting started with this online medieval strategy game
Kingdoms Under Siege is Sam’s Kingdom’s free online strategy game. You begin with a new kingdom, build resources, recruit an army, improve your defences and decide when to trade, spy, explore or attack. This beginner’s guide explains how to prepare your keep before challenging other kingdoms. The game is currently in public beta, so features and balance may change as players test it.

1. Create your Kingdom Passport
Your Kingdom Passport is your identity across Sam’s Kingdom. Once your account and passport are ready, you can name your kingdom and enter the game. Choose your kingdom name carefully: names are intended to be long-term, and changes may require a support request.
2. Protect your food and gold
Gold pays for troops, equipment, upgrades and special actions. Food keeps your army effective. An army with no food becomes much weaker, so a strong kingdom is not simply the one with the biggest army. Good rulers keep a reserve and check supplies before sending soldiers away.
3. Recruit the right army
Knights, archers and wizards each have a different role. Knights are powerful at close range, archers can threaten enemies from distance, and wizards bring strong magical power. As the battlefield system develops, range and speed will become increasingly important, so a balanced force is usually safer than relying on one unit type.
4. Equip your troops
Recruiting soldiers is only part of the job. The Royal Armoury includes equipment such as swords, shields, armour, bows and arrows, wizard hats, horses, ladders, battering rams, catapults and larger siege engines. Check what you own and what your army actually needs before spending all your gold.
5. Strengthen your defences
Walls, watchtowers and the drawbridge help keep your kingdom safe. Raising the drawbridge can make some attacks and spy actions more difficult. Special defences such as Wizard’s Mist can provide stronger temporary protection. The best defence is layered: strong structures, a ready army and enough resources to recover after an attack.
6. Use spies carefully
Spies can reveal information about another kingdom before you attack, but the amount of information depends on how many spies you send and the target’s defences. Guard dogs can stop spies, and a raised drawbridge can reduce what an enemy learns. Scouting first can save far more gold than attacking blindly.
7. Trade instead of fighting
Not every problem needs a battle. The Smuggler’s Trading Post lets players move useful supplies between kingdoms. Trading can help an ally recover, move food where it is needed, or support a larger plan. Alliances will become increasingly important as co-operative missions and larger battles develop.
8. Take part in adventures
Adventures are smaller missions that can reward gold, experience and other resources. They are a useful way to grow without immediately attacking another player. More adventures are being added during the beta.
9. Watch your experience level
Experience points help your kingdom progress. Levelling up unlocks stronger opportunities and improves your defensive position. Some alliance features also require a minimum level, so regular play and adventures matter even when you are not fighting.
10. Read your battle reports
After an attack, check the battle report rather than looking only at whether you won or lost. Reports show what happened to your forces and help you decide whether to reinforce, heal wounded troops, change equipment or try a different approach next time.
Public beta: what that means
Kingdoms Under Siege is being actively developed. Costs, rewards, unit values and balance may change as real players test the game. If something looks wrong, a button does not work, or a battle result seems unusual, please report it. Player feedback is part of how the Kingdom grows.
Best first move: build a small balanced force, keep food in reserve, strengthen your basic defences and complete a few adventures before taking on a powerful rival.
